Position Title:             Social/Recreation Program Facilitator

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00/hour

Position Summary

Opal Family Services is a not for profit, charitable organization that provides support and programs to families who have a child or adult dependent with an intellectual or physical disability.  Opal has been serving families in the greater Fredericton area since 1984 and has provides direct support and programs to 180 families (over 200 individuals). 

 Program Facilitators report to our Youth and/or Adult Program Managers and work collaboratively with fellow staff and volunteers at Opal Family Services to design and deliver an inclusive program for children and adults with special needs. Our programs also provides quality respite for families.

We are looking for someone to join a small and ambitious team of dedicated staff who provide exceptional service to families with special needs in the Fredericton area. This is a great opportunity to work in a supportive team, gain experience, and have the opportunity to assist in program development and expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating volunteers and their roles within the Kids Club and Adult Day Programs

  • Providing assistance, guidance, and direction to volunteers

  • Assisting with problem solving and crisis management

  • Working closely with parents/caregivers, schools, and other professionals to provide a safe and successful experience for participants

  • Coordinating programming and outing logistics

  • Designing a wide variety of crafts, games, indoor and outdoor activities, skits, quiet activities, and outings.

  • Keeping accurate records of participants participating in the programs.

  • Ensuring safe work practices, reporting any hazards, incidents, or near misses.

  • Ensuring ongoing and open communication with parents and caregivers to address any issues that arise during the program.

  • Fundraising

  • Other duties as required

Skills and Qualities

Essential:

  • Well organized and able to independently manage tasks and work plan

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Drivers license and $2 million liability insurance to drive children

  • Demonstrates kindness and patience with children

  • Computer skills including Word and Excel

  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification

  • Valid Criminal Record Check

Assets

  • Experience in the non-profit sector

  • Experience working with children and adults with disabilities

  • Education in the area of Social Work, Psychology, Education, Human Service Counsellor, Child and Youth Care or related fields.
